Salon Moxie Offers the Latest Celebrity Hair Obsession: The Brazilian Blowout Keratin Treatment

March 1, 2010 (RALEIGH, NC) – Salon Moxie now offers the celebrities’ choice in Brazilian keratin treatments – The Brazilian Blowout. The Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment is different from Japanese straightening and other Brazilian straighteners because it doesn’t completely straighten the hair. The hair still has plenty of volume and body and can still be worn curly or wavy. The Brazilian just softens whatever curl or wave you have. If the hair is air dried without a blow dryer, it will still have wave or curl but no frizz. On the flip side, if you want to blow dry your hair straight, you can do that, without a brush, in a fraction of the time it would have taken without the Brazilian keratin treatment. Also, with other methods, there is a line of demarcation, meaning that when new hair grows in, it is curly/wavy while the rest of the hair is straight. This blowout method washes away with time and is diffused, so there is no noticeable difference between new hair and treated hair. Other methods also have harsh chemicals in them like formaldehyde. The Brazilian Blowout DOES NOT have formaldehyde in it. And none of the chemicals in it are carcinogenic.

Q. Who is the best candidate for the Brazilian Blowout?

A. It has been our experience, that good candidates for the Brazilian Blowout are anyone who has frizzy, damaged or processed hair. We have performed the treatment on every hair type (fine/course/frizzy, curly), as well as hair that has been permed, Japanese straightened and extensions. In doing so, we have found that with proper communication and a well considered application, everyone can benefit from the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment.

Q. What kind of look will you get from the Brazilian Blowout?

A. The hair will be left totally frizz-free, shiny, effortlessly manageable and with plenty of body and bounce. There will still be the option to wear hair curly/wavy (depending on the hair type) and the freedom to blow dry hair smooth and straight in a fraction of the time invested prior to receiving the treatment.

Q. Can I still receive a Brazilian Blowout if I have highlights and/or color?

A. Yes, the Brazilian Blowout will actually improve the health of color-treated/highlighted hair by conditioning the hair while sealing the cuticle for enhanced color, reduced frizz and radiant shine.

Q. Is the Brazilian Blowout going to make my hair straight?

A. If your hair is wavy, the Brazilian Blowout will make your hair appear naturally straight and healthy. If your hair is very curly, it will minimize frizz while enhancing the appearance of the natural wave/curl. If you have straight, frizzy hair, this treatment will eliminate frizz and promote radiant shine.

Q. How long does the Brazilian Blowout last?

A. The Brazilian Blowout will last for 10-12 weeks if the Acai After-Care Maintenance product line is used. The Brazilian Blowout is a cumulative treatment, in that the more you receive it, the healthier the hair will be and the longer the result will last.

Q. Can you apply the Brazilian Blowout directly on top of other relaxers and strengtheners?

A. Yes. The Brazilian Blowout actually works best on chemically treated hair, and helps to improve the hairs condition by fortifying each strand with essential amino acids.

The Brazilian Blowout works great directly on top of a relaxer. Perform the relaxer first, Brazilian Blowout next, and then neutralize at the very end of both treatments.

The Brazilian Blowout is great to perform when someone is trying to move away from having relaxers or Japanese straighteners. It puts movement back into the hair, allowing the hair to look its best.

Q. Will my hair lose volume if I receive the Brazilian Blowout?

A. No, your hair will not lose volume as a result of receiving the Brazilian Blowout. Your hair will maintain its natural volume and you will still receive great bend and memory when blow-drying and/or using a curling iron.

Q. Will my hair return to its original state after the Brazilian Blowout treatment has completed its life cycle?

A. Yes, the hair will revert to its original state once the Brazilian Blowout treatment has completed its life cycle of 10-12 weeks, however, the condition of the hair will actually improve as a result of the fortifying and conditioning nature of the product.

Q. Can you color your hair the same day you receive a Brazilian Blowout?

A. Yes, however, you must color your hair prior to having the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment. If you are coloring hair dark brunette or red, you will want to color the hair a shade darker than you otherwise would, as the hair color will experience fading during the Brazilian Blowout treatment.

Q. Can you swim in the pool or ocean after you have the Brazilian Blowout treatment?

A. Yes, you can swim in either the pool or the ocean after you receive the Brazilian Blowout treatment, however, the treatment may be slightly compromised if you swim on a regular basis. We recommend that you apply the Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Serum on the hair prior to swimming in order to act as a protective barrier to maintain the smoothest possible result for the longest period of time.

Q. How soon can you touch up your color after you receive the Brazilian Blowout Treatment?

A. You should wait at least two weeks to administer color to the hair after you receive the Brazilian Blowout, as the color will not deposit as effectively with the protein protective layer provided by the smoothing treatment.

If your clients need to touch up color/roots in between treatments, this is ok, as the hair being touched up is new growth and does not have the treatment on it. If you need to highlight or pull the full color through the entire head of hair, make sure that the client is using the Brazilian Blowout masque at least once or twice a week to fortify the treatment back into the hair.

Q. How soon can I wash my hair after the Brazilian Blowout treatment?

A. You can wash your hair immediately after the Brazilian Blowout treatment, or as you would normally.

Q. Can I receive the Brazilian Blowout if I have over-processed blonde hair? What if my hair is platinum blonde?

A. It is important for every stylist to assess the condition of the client’s hair to make sure it is in a healthy enough state to apply extreme heat through the use of a flat iron. If it is felt that the hair is in questionable condition, the recommendation is to turn the flat iron down from 450 degrees to approx. 380-420. The stylist will have to determine the appropriate amount of heat to apply.

Q. Can you perform a Brazilian Blowout on extensions?

A. Yes, the Brazilian Blowout performs perfectly on hair extensions. It would be best for the stylist to perform the Brazilian Blowout separately on the extensions prior to putting them into the hair. If you wish to perform the treatment on extensions that are already in the hair, the stylist will need to be extremely careful when applying the solution to the bonded area. Brazilian Blowout solution acts as a conditioning agent, and may create slip resulting in the extensions separating from the hair. If the stylist is careful and works to first separate the extension hair from the client’s own hair, a great result can be achieved.

Q. Can I receive a Brazilian Blowout if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

A. There have been no clinical tests performed on the safety of performing the Brazilian Blowout on pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding. As a result, we do advise against pregnant or breastfeeding women receiving the Brazilian Blowout treatment.

Q. How soon can I receive a Brazilian Blowout treatment after I receive my first treatment?

A. The Brazilian Blowout is just like a conditioning treatment, so you will not harm the hair by performing them too soon or too much, however, please remember that you can only fill the cuticle to its capacity. If a client wants to come back for another treatment, or it did not take to he hair the way it should have, you can have the client come back in 10 days following the first treatment.

Q. What is the active chemical in the Brazilian Blowout solution that makes it work so well?

A. This is a proprietary system that we are currently in the process of patenting. This treatment is 100% salon safe. What makes the Brazilian Blowout treatment effective is our use of the Super Nutrient Complex in conjunction with a proprietary polymer system. This combination is what rounds the follicle, smooths the cuticle and repairs any preexisting damage.

Q. How is the Brazilian Blowout different from the Japanese straightening method many people are familiar with?

A. Japanese hair straightening changes the actual structure of the hair. In doing so, there is an obvious difference between the new hair growth and the hair that has been treated, resulting in a life-long commitment to continuing the straightener or cutting hair off (if client is unhappy with the result). This service can also leave the hair flat, too straight and with little to no shine or luster. The hair's integrity seems to be compromised, and after a few treatments, the hair appears to be in an unhealthy state.

January 25-26, 2010 (RALEIGH, NC) – Stylists from Salon Moxie’s talented team recently attended Bumble & bumble University located in New York City’s historic meat packing district. Dana Rasch, Jennifer Pozarycki, Lauren Rogers, and Jenna Emory enhanced their skill set by studying with master hairdressers at Bumble in a rigorous two day course entitled Design Workshop. These stylists engaged in comprehensive theory and hands-on training covering both razor and scissor techniques as well as consultation skills and product knowledge. They discovered new ways to hone their skills and expand their repertoire.

“Being at BbU was a phenomenal experience! I gained a wealth of knowledge from the amazing instructors there. I am really looking forward to bringing back this inspiration to my clients,” said Pozarycki.

Salon Moxie First to Experience Bumble & bumble's New "Wear and Care" Line

January 18, 2010 (RALEIGH) – Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie were the first to view Bumble and bumble’s newest launch – Wear and Care. This line is actually a re-launch of their former Treatment Line. Runway and editorial artist, Alejandro Jimenez, was on-hand to unveil this new line consisting of Mending (for chemically treated hair) and Quenching (for mechanically treated hair - blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc…). Each consists of shampoo, conditioner, complex, and masque.

Jimenez readied models featuring each new product while Bb sales consultant, Melissa Jones, presented a detailed look into the development, ingredients, uses, and benefits of the new line. “Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie were Bb’s first choice to premiere this line which will not be unveiled to most salons until February. It has been exciting to witness Bb’s relationship with the salons blossom over time. I am thrilled to be the representative for these salons,” said Jones.

Jimenez presented his finished models and described how he created each style. January 16, 2010 (RALEIGH) – Jack and Joelle Ray, owners of Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie, hosted their 3rd Annual Holiday Awards Celebration. The red-carpet event took place at the Marriott City Center downtown. The Rays celebrated their teams’ success with an evening of food, fun, and recognition.

Jack Ray toasted the past years’ many impressive accomplishments: twenty four trips to New York City for advanced training, participation in fourteen fashion shows and photo shoots, Raleigh Fashion Week, winning The Social Magazine award for Stylists of the Year, Official Salons for The Carolina Music Awards Show, Pink Fest sponsor, featured in international style magazines, recognized as one of top three salons in Metro Magazine’s Bravo Awards, recognition as one of the Top 200 salon’s in North America by Salon Today Magazine, placing in the top ten of every Citysearch salon category, holding over 200 hours of in-salon education, hosted the filming and hair and makeup for two reality TV pilots, and held the Cut’s for Pups fundraiser benefiting Second Chance Pet Adoptions.

December 3, 2009 (Durham, NC) - Salon Moxie and Samuel Cole Salon stylists, Cara Harrison, Michelle Scaraglino, Jennifer Pozarycki, Lauren Rogers, Patrick Arnold, Kristen Carson, Carolyn Nord, Robyn Murphy, Jen Shayya, and Noelle Wolford readied models’ hair and makeup for a fashion showcase of Rachel Week’s School House brand collegiate apparel at The Streets of Southpoint. The hair was styled in very loose waves and braids, focusing on the natural texture of each model's hair, but giving it some extra 'oomph' and shine. Make up reflected a fresh and light feel utilizing bronzers, lip gloss, and mascara. Weeks wanted to capture the look of the 'everyday college student'.

Weeks is a graduate of Duke University and Fulbright Scholarship recipient who designs hip and stylish collegiate apparel. She is more than just a designer. She is dedicated to ethically producing her line of clothing. So much so, that she opened up a “living wage” factory in Sri Lanka.

Salon Moxie Director, Maria Lemons and Samuel Cole Salon Director, Kristina Weeks, coordinated the efforts of both salons for the event.

November 6, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie stylists Cara Harrison, Michelle Scaraglino, Dana Rasch, Kristen Carson, Jenna Emory, Lauren Rogers, Jennifer Pozarycki, Selina Bazemore, Patrick Arnold, Noelle Wolford, Kelli Compton, Kristina Weeks, Ellen Geenty, Sara Beard, and Maria Lemons were on-hand to prepare 23 models for the “Glitter and Gloves” fashion show held at Solas on Glenwood South. This Austin Jade charity fashion show was created by designer Jade Murray to raise funds for two organizations that are dear to her, the American Cancer Society and the Duke Patient Support Program. Murray explains, “Cancer affects all of our lives, either directly or indirectly. It affected my family. My grandfather battled lung cancer for quite a while. It was devastating to watch such a strong person go through months of chemo. We always celebrated our birthdays together. He passed away on my 13th birthday. I have always wanted to do something special in his memory. I put together “Glitter and Gloves” to raise money for these two charities that do so much to help families affected by cancer”.

“With the brilliance and creativity of Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie our models’ hair and makeup looked absolutely stunning – channeling an old Hollywood glamour look. The styling class featured their newest styling product release, Thickening Serum. The nightly, leave-in treatment fattens and fortifies over time for thicker, stronger strands and fuller hair. Jimenez demonstrated runway and editorial styling techniques on three models that had been using the Thickening family of products, including the new serum, for several weeks. “There is an energy with Jack and Joelle’s team that I don’t experience anywhere else.

Oct 10-11, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – The producers of “John and Kate Plus 8” are interested in turning Jade Murray’s real life story as an "up-and-coming" fashion designer into a reality show. Murray was filmed on site at Samuel Cole Salon overseeing preparation of her models’ hair and makeup for a photo shoot that took place later that day at Duke Gardens. The actual photo shoot was part of the filming also. Murray is a local designer who turned national fashion prodigy with her clothing line, Austin Jade. Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie stylists, Cara Harrison, Kelli Sintay, Nikki Galloni, Michelle Scaraglino, Ellen Geenty, Erin Shebaugh, Carolyn Nord, Sara Beard, Nichole LuMaye, Britt Crane, Jess Duncan, Ashley Collins, Yvette Cannas, Maria Lemons and Kristina Weeks prepared the models hair and makeup at the salon and were on site at the photo shoot to do touchups. Hair and makeup for Murray and her assistants was also done at the salon. “It was exciting and a little crazy having a film crew on site filming us as we worked,” commented Cara Harrison, Salon Moxie Senior Stylist.

“We have an ongoing working relationship with Jade, having worked with her during Raleigh Fashion Week & Strut 09 and her Fashion Rocks Camp. Our salons are always eager to assist her in her projects. She is a pleasure work with”, remarked Maria Lemons, Salon Moxie Director.

“In shooting a reality show I am allowing the world to see what really goes on behind the fashion “seams”. The show will be based on my life and the crazy world of fashion. This annual Susan G. Komen Foundation event is designed to give breast cancer survivors a day of 100% pampering by local salons and spas and to recognize survivors. “We were thrilled to be involved in such a heart-warming event. Our teams have all been affected by breast cancer in some way, so we didn’t hesitate when asked to contribute our time and talent,” said Jack Ray, one of the owners of Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie.

September 27, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) - Salon Moxie hosted “Cuts for Pups”, a charity event organized to help raise funds for Second Chance Pet Adoptions. The team at Salon Moxie generously donated their time and talent by offering $20 haircuts. 100% of the proceeds went to Second Chance Pet Adoptions. This event was created and organized by Salon Moxie Senior Stylist, Michelle Scaraglino. “It is important to me that my teammates and I stay connected and involved in our community. I have such a special place in my heart for all animals and I wanted to do something to help an organization that I strongly believe in – Second Chance Pet Adoptions. I love what they do. They help find homes for animals without giving their innocent lives an expiration date,” said Scaraglino. “We are a team of certifiable animal lovers so Michelle had my full support when she approached me about this fundraiser,” remarked Salon Moxie Director, Maria Lemons.

Jack and Joelle Ray, owners of Salon Moxie and the awarding winning Samuel Cole Salon were on-hand to participate in the event. “It was so inspiring to see the enthusiasm from our team and the support of the community as we raised a total of $502. Being animal lovers ourselves, Jack and I decided to match the money raised. We believe in getting involved in our community and giving back,” said Joelle. Salon Moxie was pleased to present a check for $1,004 to Kristine Mayberry of Second Chance Pet Adoptions.

“We were very excited to be partner with Salon Moxie on this great event to help the animals. Many of our volunteers loved participating as they were able to help their favorite cause and enjoyed the benefits of a professional and stylish haircut by an awesome team! It's great to have the community involved in such a great cause to help a group often overlooked in this economic hardship, the animals. While many have lost their jobs, many more animals have lost their homes. We look forward to more events with Salon Moxie to continue our mission to help the stray and abandoned animals of our community," said Mayberry.

Second Chance Pet Adoptions is a non-profit animal rescue organization that has served homeless cats and dogs of the Triangle Area of North Carolina since 1989. The foundation dedicates itself to the principle of preserving the lives of animals, not ending them.

Michelle Scaraglino and Cara Harrison enhanced their skill set by studying with master hairdressers at Bumble in a rigorous 3 day course entitle Design Workshop. Scaraglino and Harrison honed their skills, found inspiration and discovered different and unique ways to focus their ideas, expand their repertoire, and learn to view hairdressing in new contexts. Design Workshop offers advanced training in cutting and styling techniques for experienced stylists.

July 6-10, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie stylists were on hand to help budding fashionistas who attended Austin Jade’s Fashion Rocks Camp. Stylists offered tips, performed demonstrations, answered questions, and gave hands-on instruction to students. Jade Murray is the camp’s creator who is a local designer turned national fashion prodigy with her clothing line, Austin Jade. She developed this week long event to inspire young people with a passion for fashion. The students attended fashion-oriented classes all week which culminated in the camp’s grand finale, a fashion show for family and friends. Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie stylists were on-hand daily to help prepare the students who would do hair and makeup on models themselves for the show that featured looks chosen by Jade. “It was so gratifying to watch these students take what they had learned and translate it into very professional runway hair and makeup creations on the models”, commented Yvette Cannas, a Samuel Cole Salon stylist and renowned makeup artist.

May 14-16, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – With their immense collective talent Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie stylists performed stunning hair transformations on the 150+ models at Raleigh Fashion Week. The salons were selected again this year as the official salons for the event after their exclusive involvement in Strut ’08 last year. “It was my honor to select Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie as the official salons for Raleigh Fashion Week. Their involvement elevated this event beyond my expectations. The entire team is dedicated, passionate, and professional at all times and was an absolute pleasure to work with. It still amazes me that they created unique runway hair designs for over 150 models with some of these models walking several times during one show which required extremely tight turnaround times on hair design changes,” said Brian Williams, Raleigh Fashion Week producer.

The salons’ stylists delivered hair designs ranging from conservative formal updos to over-the-top, high fashion avante-guarde hair. “These types of events give our stylists a chance to grow as runway artists. They blew me away with their creativity. After working the 9:00-2:30 shift each of the show days in the salons, they would arrive backstage at 3:00 ready, willing, and able to work their magic until midnight each night, not to mention all of the hours they spent preparing. One of the greatest highlights of the event was the “live” hair makeover performed on center stage by Samuel Cole Salon’s own, Jack Ray, Ashley Collins, and Erin Shebaugh at the grand finale, Strut ’09. With the audience and teams from both salons cheering them on, these extremely talented stylists flawlessly executed a 6 minute hair transformation on the model whose waist-length hair was cut into a chic, angled bob. Salon Moxie Director, Maria Lemons delivered a makeup makeover while the cut was in-progress. The model’s 12 inches of hair was generously donated to Wigs for Kids. “I was so proud to watch Jack, Ashley, Erin and Maria shine up on stage doing what they love to do,” commented Nicole Williamson, one of the Managers at the salons.

April 27, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – Bumble & bumble educator, platform artist, and runway editorial artist, Alejandro Jimenez took center stage at Samuel Cole Salon to share his expertise and inspire the design teams from both Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie. Jimenez has been doing editorial hair with Bumble’s elite runway team for many years (Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show being one of the many). He serves as the Bumble Educator in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Jimenez shared his favorite aspect of hairdressing – styling. “Styling is the moment in the overall experience when you can really make the color and cut come alive,” said Jimenez.
