Samuel Cole Salon, Salon Moxie Join “Locks of Love”

May 6, 2007 (RALEIGH, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon, an upscale hair styling destination in North Raleigh, and Salon Moxie, its new “sister” salon, also in North Raleigh, have become “Locks of Love” salons. Both facilities will offer free shampoo, cut and style to anyone who donates his or her hair to Locks of Love.

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that uses donations of human hair to make wigs and hair pieces for disadvantaged children under 18 who suffer from any number of balding conditions, not just hair loss due to chemotherapy for treating cancer. The most common cause, according to Locks of Love, is alopecia areata, an autoimmune deficiency disease that affects over 4 million people in the United States, two million of whom are children. There is no known cause or cure for alopecia areata.

“At Samuel Cole Salon, we make it a regular practice to use our time, talent, and services to support several worthwhile and charitable organizations,” said Joelle Ray, who co-owns both salons with her husband and senior stylist, Jack Ray. “Locks of Love is another wonderful opportunity for us, especially as we establish Salon Moxie as a contributing member of the Raleigh community.” Men, women, and children can donate their hair. In fact, most hair donors are children, according to Locks of Love statistics.

Anyone who would like to donate hair to Locks of Love (it must be 10 inches long or more) may contact Samuel Cole Salon (919-845-0098) or Salon Moxie (919-850-0721). The salons will shampoo, cut and style contributors’ hair for free on the day of the donation, then package the donation and pay all shipping charges. “We want to make it easy and rewarding to do such a wonderful thing for such a wonderful cause,” Ray noted.

Samuel Cole Salon, located at 240 Newton Road, was named Citysearch's Best of the Triangle 2006 “Salon of the Year” and 2006 “Top Ten Color Salon,” and received Metro Magazine's “Metro Bravo” award for Best Salon in the Triangle in 2006. The salon supports the Carolina Hurricane’s Kids ‘N Community Foundation, Duke Children’s Hospital, Oak Hill Children’s Home, Wakefield Elementary School, Cary Academy, Anytime Fitness, and Citysearch’s annual Halloween Bash. Salon Moxie opened recently in Raleigh’s North Ridge Shopping Center, “to appeal to clients who want the fresh looks and high style of upscale salons without upscale prices,” Ray said. For more information, visit www.salon-moxie.com.
