Salon Moxie Hosts Habitat “CHAIRity” Chair

September 29, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) – To continue its support of the Raleigh arts community, and to support a worthwhile fundraiser, Salon Moxie in North Raleigh is hosting one of the chairs-turned-art that will be auctioned off next month to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Wake County.

Salon Moxie’s chair is one of nearly 40 that area artists have “recycled” into original works of art for the 2008 CHAIRity Gala & Auction sponsored by Purple Armchair in downtown Raleigh (600 N. West Street). The event will take place Saturday, October 11, from 7-11 p.m. and will include live music, food donated by area restaurants, and wine.

The chairs were supplied by Habitat/Wake’s ReStore. The artists were free to do anything they wanted with them as long as they started with the same basic, wooden chair.

Salon Moxie is hosting “Twenty Ways To Paint The World Green,” by Raleigh artist Tarrah Goforth, who teaches art at Wakefield High School and at the Sertoma Art Center.

“In college, I was an active member of the Habitat for Humanity board,” Goforth said. “I am excited to be involved with this organization again.”  Goforth’s colorful chair features 20 suggestions of ways to live a “greener” lifestyle.

Salon Moxie and the other hosts around the city will keep their chairs until October 10, at which time they will return to Purple Armchair for the gala and auction. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.purplearmchair.com or call Kim Weiss of raleigh's blueplate pr, 919-272-8615; kim@blueplatepr.com.
